Things to do in Spring Around Grand Rapids

Spring is here and as Michigan awakens from her winter hibernation, the urge to get outside and be more active takes hold. There are so many great things that happen during the spring in the Grand Rapids area. From festivals to butterflies to sports, West Michigan comes alive in spring! Below are some of our favorite activities that are happening in the next few months!

Butterflies are Blooming at Frederik Meijer GardensThis is a favorite display of young and old alike that happens every year! Head out to Frederik Meijer Gardens to see thousands of butterflies and learn about their life cycle! Many of these butterflies you don’t see in nature here in Michigan, so it’s a real treat to walk through the greenhouses with their bright colors fluttering everywhere! The display usually runs from the beginning of March to the end of April, so make sure you see them before they are gone!

Tulip Time in HollandThe biggest spring festival in West Michigan, Tulip Time celebrates Holland’s strong Dutch heritage through Dutch dancing, historical tours, parades, and tons of other fun stuff! Make sure you make your way over to Windmill Island to see the fields of tulips in bloom too! This festival runs from May 7-May 15, right during the peak of the tulips blooming.

Explore Parks and Trails-Grand Rapids and the surrounding area has an extensive trails and parks system! We are blessed to have some of the most diverse and beautiful parks around. Farmer’s MarketsWest Michigan is well known for farming and there is an abundance of farmer’s markets where you can get the best fresh produce! One of the biggest ones in the area is in Muskegon! This farmer’s market makes for a full Saturday morning adventure! Tour the stalls in the market, listen to some live music, grab coffee from Aldea, and walk around downtown Muskegon and explore all the other fun shops and food in the area.

Parade of HomesA favorite of ours, HBA Parade of Homes shows off the best of new construction homes and interior design! Tour homes from $300,000 to over $1 million and see what is the latest and greatest in home technology and design. Attend either the Grand Rapids or Lakeshore edition for a fun time seeing the inside of homes. It’s like going behind the scenes and being in your own episode of House Hunters. This year’s Grand Rapids Parade of Homes runs from June 17-25. Contact us to get tickets!
